When we lose a loved one or dear friend to death, we need not be overcome with sorrow and grief. Feeling the loss we will but Jesus will take the pain and grief if we will but ask Him.
Present With The Lord
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV)
Death is certain for each one of us. The Bible declares it quite succinctly, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Hebrews 9:27 (KJV).
I’ve conducted quite a few funerals and memorial services in my tenure as a minister and I never have ceased to be amazed at the reactions of those in attendance.
There is such grieving, agonizing and wailing among those who are separated from God by unbelief or traditional teaching of unsaved pulpiteers. Hopelessness and fear grip their hearts and their anguish is almost unbearable. They have no real closure because they don’t really know where their loved one is. All they know is that they are now devoid of their presence and companionship.
How diametrically opposed to the reactions of those who truly know God in and through the Lord Jesus. Though feeling the loss there is a comfort that only comes from knowing that God is in control. Even when the deceased is unsaved, the believer takes solace in the knowledge that God is just.
When the deceased is a born-again believer there is almost an atmosphere of joy and rejoicing due to the certainty that there is a heaven to look forward to.
As our verse for today teaches, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. This simple truth brings strength and peace to those left behind. They know that one day they will pass on to be with Lord and there will see their loved ones again. This is the blessed hope of all who believe.
1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
If you have suffered loss because you are not certain of your future; please, receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior today. Let Him take the pain, suffering and sorrow. All it takes is a simple prayer:
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
