Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 122:6 (KJV) Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

My wife, Sharon, and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Israel. It would have been wonderful to have had you with us. Perhaps, one day, we can go together.

While there we had the privilege of visiting the IDF soldiers on the Lebanese border and witnessed their dedication to protect the people of Israel and the cause of freedom. This is exactly what they are doing on all of their borders; protecting their people.

The Psalmist records the heart of God toward His chosen city. This is the place that He will set up His kingdom on earth.

Revelation 21:2 (KJV) And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Revelation 21:10 (KJV) And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

It is a dual city and many believe that the heavenly Jerusalem hovers over the natural city even now. This is an intriguing thought to ponder.

Psalm 122:3 (KJV) Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

Jerusalem, ירו לם Y ruwshalaim, a dual city of peace, is builded, הנב banah, caused to continue, established (made permanent) as a city, ריע ‘iyr, a place guarded by waking or a watch, that is compact, רבח chabar, coupled together or, joined together and united with, דחי yachad, its likeness.

God, Himself, is watching over Jerusalem and guarding her until she be joined, permanently, by the heavenly (she may be already in the realm of the spirit but not yet visible to the eye).

No wonder, then, that the Lord would want us to pray for her peace. No wonder that He would prosper those who do.
