The Gift of Faith
Romans 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The faith that God gives is supernatural. Romans 10:17 is not talking about natural faith, the supernatural faith that God gives through the hearing of His living Word. We cannot boast of anything because all we have and are has been given us by God Himself. Each of us has received the measure of faith needed for us to live a victorious and abundant life.
Romans 12:3 (KJV) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure [limited portion, degree] of faith.
Faith, supernatural faith, takes hold of what a believer hopes for and gives it substance and the assurance that it will be received.
Hebrews 11:1 (AMP) Now Faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.]
Moreover, faith [pistis: The Gospel, The Word, Truth itself, and our belief and trust in it, and Him Who spoke it], is the substance [hupostasis: foundational support under] the things [pragma: matter, work, business] hoped for [elpizo: expectation of what God has confided in us about], it is the evidence [elegchos: reproof of] things not seen [blepo: what we behold, perceive, take heed of].
The Word, Truth itself, and our belief and trust in it, and Him Who spoke it is. This is the expectation that reproves what we perceive, and what we pay attention to in the natural. This is what gives us unswerving confidence in the, yet unseen, thing spoken of.
