Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)
God would that we have eyes to see beyond the moment and the present situation or circumstance. The end of the world as we know it is at hand. Jesus could very well be returning in the near future but in the mean time it could be a mean time. Many will desert the faith while many more will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Which are you?
The “Church,” those who say they are Bible believing, blood washed, born-again Christians have lost the value of the assembly. They will not pass a meal time without sitting down at the table to eat, yet when a spiritual meal is set at the table of the Lord, they are too busy to come and dine.
This simply says that they are blind to the fact that “the day is approaching.”
If me-ism and the lust for self-gratification comes before the work of God, repentance is in order. Our stadiums are packed with foot ball, base ball, basket ball, and hockey fans much like the Roman coliseums were of old. The people watched Gladiators fight to the death and were lulled into thinking that life was good because they were entertained.
Christians were made to fight lions and armed men with their bare hands while the crowds laughed and cheered. Today, Christians are being imprisoned, tortured and martyred for their faith in many countries. Must America become a land where Christians are persecuted before the Church will wake up? Would there even be a church if times got rough? It is time to reevaluate how our time is spent and whether we honor the Lord on “the Lord’s Day.” As we see “the day approaching” we need to be honest and judge ourselves before the Lord has to judge us Himself.
