Selfish Ambition or Servant Hearted?

Mark 10.40 (AMP) But to sit at My right hand or at My left hand is not Mine to give; but [it will be given to those] for whom it is ordained and prepared. And when the other ten [apostles] heard it, they began to be indignant with James and John.

It is interesting to note that strife came when some began to seek position and power.

The simple truth is that all power struggles in relationships originate from an attitude of ambition rather than serving. Vying for position breeds strife.

Unfortunately, every pastor has, at one time or another, had one of the most promising young men or women in the church get offended with someone and refuse to forgive them. Eventually, they get real spiritual and leave the church.

Potential is not necessarily accompanied by patience, peace making, and perseverance.

Talent and/or gifting does not guarantee gentleness, meekness and humility. In fact, the opposite is usually true.

The people most susceptible to the deceitful lies of demon spirits of pride and arrogance seem to be those with artistic giftings; especially those with musical ability.

No wonder the first choir director was kicked out of heaven. No wonder the whole choir left with him. Yes, the devil was heaven’s music minister. The Lord said of Lucifer (Satan):

Ezekiel 28:13, 17 (KJV) . . . the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

It is a true saying that, “Pride goes before a fall.”

Proverbs 16:18 (KJV) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

I pray for, and shed tears for, such daily as I see the devil use the same old tricks to deceive and lure them into the “snare of the fowler.” Their end is nothing short of certain destruction unless they humble themselves and repent.

If you find that your heart is hardened and that you find yourself full of selfish ambition, repent, yield to the Holy Spirit and become a servant whose music drives away demons rather than beckons to them.
